Women's Cancer Action Launches Effort to Ignite Grassroots Action on Cancer Prevention
Women's Cancer Action reignites the legacy of Women's Cancer Resource Center (WCRC). WCRC was a groundbreaking organization founded in Minneapolis, MN in 1992 that provided support for women during their cancer journey. Insurmountable financial hardship forced WCRC to close its doors in 2006, but the demand for clarity in the perpetually murky arena of cancer prevention and treatment continues unabated.
Women's Cancer Action started in 2007 when Barbra Wiener, founder of WCRC, gathered a group of people who were determined to continue the center's important work and address the need for a broad-reaching 21st century cancer resource for women.
"Since then we have been working to define our collective vision as a grassroots cancer organization,” said Board Member Jen Cash. “We are here to speak up, make noise, and be heard. We want to highlight the links between cancer and environmental toxins, challenge lawmakers to improve our health care policies, hold pharmaceutical companies accountable to provide safe and affordable treatments to all women, and to think carefully about how money is applied to cancer research. Ultimately, this is about making broad changes to our society in order to create a healthier, safer environment and prevent cancer, a disease that impacts thousands of lives every day."
